TANKA

Birdsong fades away,

twilight creeps into the gap -

awaiting darkness.

Waning cherry blossoms fall -

drifting closer to Winter.

Dewdrops hesitate -

decorating spider webs.

Small fingers of life

stir the hibernating earth -

the Ancient Ones awaken.

Soul candle lanterns,

 adrift on tranquil water,

shed light on faces

 overwhelmed by history.

 August Sixth – Hiroshima.
